Yvonne Amanor-Boadu, PhD, LMFT
Yvonne Amanor-Boadu is a Licensed Marriage and Family Therapist with an MS and PhD in marriage and family therapy from Kansas State University. Her specializations include working with high conflict couples, survivors of domestic violence or sexual assault/abuse, individuals with mood disorders, and military families. Formerly a Research Associate at Kansas State University, Dr. Boadu worked on research projects related to military families, both Army and Air Force, focusing on a range of issues, including the impact of deployment on family members, family maltreatment, and resiliency in military couples.
Dr. Boadu describes her practice by saying, “I think all of us could use a little help at one time or another. Difficult situations can get the better of us, and we need someone to help us remember who we are, figure out our options, develop new skills, and make changes that support our growth. Whether I am working with an individual, couple, or family, I see my role as helping clients remember their strengths and capabilities, and find ways to work with the people they care about to create solutions.
"I utilize a strength-based and client-focused approach. I work with clients to determine what would be best for them, and we work together at therapeutic goals that they set, moving at their pace. I’m there to provide support, encouragement, information, and challenge, wherever needed. I encourage clients to have other family members join us, where that would be helpful, and, with their permission, I actively collaborate with other professionals involved in their care.”
